Russell's Review - PotC3

Today i went with Mommy to see Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End. Having not seen the previous two, it may have been a selfish choice by Mommy to drag me to this, but I guess every movie out right now requires some remedial viewing. Anyways, I was pretty lost with what was going on and quickly fell asleep. Mommy tried to explain what was happening, but to be honest, i think she was a little lost herself. Basically, it amounted to a 3hr nap in an air conditioned theater. All in all, a decent outing.

Thanks Auntie Sheryl & Uncle Mike

Russell loves his new play mat, although he hasn't mastered the spinny thing yet.

An Inconvienent View

Okay, Gore's movie was thought provoking and interesting. Sadly there are no huge video screens or hydraulic hoists in this one but I encourage you to take a look. The documentary is around an hour long but offers a different perspective to the Global Warming issue.

May 24 (acutally the 21st) fireworks

A few quick shots from the balcony. Anwar, Luma, and Melanie stopped by to watch too. Too bad Russell wasn't too interested.

Anyways, the balcony is great. Beats having to deal with this..

A Convenient Oversight

from the National Post.

Politicians and educators may accept on their face filmed warnings of a world tumbling toward catastrophe if we don't dramatically cut back on our greenhouse gas emissions. But some of Mr. Gore's allies have acknowledged glaring inaccuracies in the film.

Though Mr. Gore was right for "getting the message out," University of Colorado climatologist Kevin Vranes told The New York Times last month that he worried about the film "overselling our certainty about knowing the future." James E. Hansen, a NASA scientist and one of Mr. Gore's advisors, agreed the movie has "imperfections" and "technical flaws." About An Inconvenient Truth's connection of rising hurricane activity to global warming - something refuted by storm experts - Mr. Hansen said, "we need to be more careful in describing the hurricane story than he is." Among other things, since the film's release last year, scientists have rejected Mr. Gore's claims that 2005 was the warmest year on record (temperatures have been receding since 1998), that polar bears are heading for extinction (their numbers are growing), that Antarctica is warming (interior temperature readings show cooling) and that sea levels will "rise 18 to 20 feet," swamping coastal cities (the International Panel on Climate Change predicts a few inches).

Hot night in the beach

So after living for 8 years on Queen Street, in view of the Fire station, you get used to the sounds of sirens going by. A few go by, its no different that the streetcar. However, every few years, I'd hop out of bed after the 5th or 6th truck would go by.

This was almost exactly two years ago when the 7th wave burnt down.

.... so anyways, in the new place, there are far fewer fire trucks going by on a regular basis. Last night, after the 3rd one went by the front of the house, i got up and opened the back balcony door to see if I could see where it was going. Well, just past the last townhouse, directly in line where the new million dollar homes were located, i could see flames lighting up the sky.

Thinking oh shit, I could just imagine those houses burning to the ground. Since i've become used to getting up and walking around in the middle of the night, i grabbed my camera and a jacket and hustled down the street. Once i got to the pool, i could see that it wasnt the houses on fire but the changerooms and washrooms at the beach, near the volleyball courts. A little less dramatic than the homes, infact, it looked like a big beach bonfire. Anyways, a started snapping away.

It looks like they piled up a bunch of wooden snowfences behind the change room and that was what caught fire (was set on fire) and the change rooms eventually caught fire too.

It didn't take long for the almost 50-70 firefighters to put the flames out once they had their hose down to fire.

So i'm walking back home, satisfied with my action shots... only to notice the image stablization was turned off on my lens !!! So low light, and shakey hands could only produce the following pics. Sorry.

Quick update

Russell's many fans have been looking for an update. To be honest, not much has been new. Russell was a little yellow at first, but after 3 blood tests, he's now a normal yellow... i guess. Basically he's been eating, sleeping and crying. All normal stuff.

Grandma stayed with us this week. I can say the cupboards have never been more organized.

Saturday, Mike, Juley, and Michaela came to visit. Russell scored his first 'no relative' kiss, and by an older woman too... the boy has skillz.

and a few more random pics from the week...

Sunday visits

Sunday was even busier than Saturday...

First, Auntie Cathy brought Russell and Mommy a wonderful stash of organic and healthy stuff.

Next, the Kozai's came by with gifts and dessert...

Then Auntie Gina came by.. you can tell how experienced Gina is holding babies by looking at how relaxed Russell looks.

Uncle Todd and Auntie Rebecca also dropped by but Daddy was too absent minded to shoot a photo....

Then we went next door to say hi to Shari and Frank

After all that.... Russell was pretty tired. Lets see what Monday will bring.

Saturday's guests

Its the first weekend at home and Russell is a popular attraction at the beaches. Even closing the DVP this weekend couldn't stem the rush.

Saturday, Russell had another test for Jaundice. His levels are dropping and do not require treatment, but the doctor wants another test on Monday.

Auntie Deanne and Uncle Timmie dropped by:

Then, Auntie Melanie and Uncle Adam came by with gifts. Adam even brought Russell a Wii to play with... sadly, he didn't leave it.

Spokes baby ???

So with a little Aveeno baby lotion, that rash cleared right up. Johnson & Johnson are you reading???

Daddy actually likes it too... finally a skin cream that doesn't stink and isn't greasy.

Only thing is that the doctors think I look a little yellow. geez, given my mommy and daddy, what were they expecting??? Anyways, I had to get a bilirubin test for jaundice today. The nurse pricked my foot for blood and I didn't cry or anything. Later, the Dr. called to say I had a mild case of Jaundice, and they wanted to test me again on Friday.

Beach Day... gotta start sometime

So with the sunny skies and mild weather, it was time to embrace the neighborhood. We ventured out to the beach to get our first taste of the world. Later on, Obasan and Ojiisan visited. Then, concerned with his growing rash, we visited the doctor for a quick look see. Hopefully his recommendation of some lotion helps it clear up.

Bath day

Our first full day together and the weather was a little gloomy outside. Most of the morning was spend lounging around. To lighten things up, we had great anticipation for Russell's first bath. ... oh, and you can see I'm starting to develop an icky rash.
